Cool going at Poole for Ranking 1

Congratulations Peter Stollery on taking out the first ranking event of 2019 at a chilly Longham Lakes venue in the SW District

A number of our countries top skippers arrived to a light Northerly breeze in sunny conditions. Overnight freezing temperatures had left some hard water in places but after some handy boat work by our trusty team on the water, the ice had cleared sufficiently enough to use the middle bank with most opting for the largest A rigs.

An early lunch was called as the breeze shifted to a cooler and slightly onshore South westerly building breeze that had the fleet in B rigs for some fast open water sailing on the left bank course.

In the end it was the consistency of Stollery that took the day with 22 points. Darin Ballington finished with a well earned 2nd place 7 points adrift of the winner and Chris Harris rounded out the podium, edging out a close chasing Edwards duo, a further 12 points back from Ballington.

There were a number of strong performances through the day with Bill Culshaw, Vinnie Zammit, Colin Walton, Hugh McAdoo and the returning Dave Potter getting among the low digit scores.

Thanks to our PRO Peter Wiles and our hardworking Poole club hosts for a good day’s racing in the chilly conditions.
